Haiti Earthquake

EFCA TouchGlobal Crisis Response is responding to the 7.0 earthquake hit an area near Port-au-Prince, Haiti on 1/12/10. Haiti is located in the EFCA Southeast District, and we are coordianting our response with the District and other key partners. There is an EFCA Church Plant in the Port-au-Prince area, but we have not had any reports from Pastor Absolan Joseph.

Raising funds for immediate relief, recovery and other crisis resposne needs is the priority.
Donations can be made via the link to the right, or by mailing to:
EFCA Earthquake Relief #3970

Minneapolis, MN 55420
Note #3970 in the check memo line.

Damage reports are still coming in, but it appears to be a major crisis. CNN is stating that a devastating 7.0 earthquake hit the capital city of Port-au-Prince Haiti about 5 PM EST Tuesday afternoon, with upwards of 24 additional aftershocks recorded throughout the evening with some aftershocks reaching 5.9 on the Richter scale. Many government buildings including the Presidential Palace have collapsed, trapping workers and leaving many people unaccounted for. Homes, hotels, hospitals and other buildings including U.N. installations have collapsed or sustained severe damage. Thousands are unaccounted for and are feared dead or trapped beneath the rubble.

Port-au-Prince has an estimated population of 2-3 million people. Haiti is the poorest nation in the Western Hemisphere, with 80% of the population living below the poverty line and 50% of the population living in abject poverty.

Mark, our prayers are with Haiti and Pastor Joseph, so keep us informed how we can best help/partner with relief.

My name is Rick Coplin. I am 61. I have been blessed to do missions in many places around the world. I truly feel called to get to Haiti immediately.

I am a member of EV Free of the Conejo Valley, Newbury Park, California. I have done missions in Cuba x4, Guatemala x8, China, Turkey, Afghanistan, Mexico and more.

I am praying that it is God's will for me to leave soon and minister His good news in Haiti. I know that if He sends me, He will accomplish impossible things as I have seen Him do them many times on different mission trips.

I know this may not be the forum, but I am reaching out for financial assistance to get these hands and feet into service in Haiti quickly. My pastor is Steve Larson, and my good friend and worsip pastor is John Evans.

Yes, there is a need to provide relief in the form of food, shelter, medical aid, etc. but, now, more than ever we need to provide HOPE. Hope in the form of Jesus Christ and His good news.

My passport is current, my shots are current. I can fly from LA to New York to PAP for $700 one way. I can find a place to stay for $200 a week. I can provide everything else I need. I am asking, yes asking in Jesus' name for your help to get me to Haiti. A pledge of $2,000 would put this experienced evangelist on the ground and in His service.

Please, please, prayerfully consider this request. Contact my pastors for references.

In His Service,
Rick Coplin
